Lester Eugene Rhyne Retired vocational teacher
Lester Eugene Rhyne, 79, of Glendale Avenue, South Clinton, died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Windwood Health & Rehab Center in Clinton.
Mr. Rhyne was retired from the Oak Ridge schools as a vocational teacher at Oak Ridge High School. He was also a former employee of Watlington Motor Co. and of Walker Chevrolet in Clinton.
He was born in Blount County on Sept. 11, 1917, the son of the Rev. Labe and Ida Murphy Rhyne. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He had been a longtime member of Zion Baptist Church in Claxton and served the church as a deacon, trustee and Sunday school teacher. At the time of his death, he was a member of Gospel Baptist Church.
Mr. Rhyne is survived by his wife, Maude Jennings Rhyne; two daughters, Linda Cook of Morristown and Louise Jones and her husband, Larry, of Kingston; two sons, Carl E. Rhyne and his wife, Jean, of Powell, and Jerry L. Rhyne and his wife, Sherry, of Hendersonville; and a sister, Mary Charles Rhyne Lester of Powell.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Deborah Shrader, Duane Rhyne, Donna Inners, Tammy Belcher, De Anna Cook, Laura Scheffer, Lloyd Jones, Jonathan Rhyne, Joey Rhyne, Brandon Haston and Britney Haston; four great-grandchildren, Kristin Shrader, Colin Rhyne, Jared Belcher and Rebekah Belcher; and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters and three brothers, Georgia Henderson, Kathyleen Fowler, Herman Rhyne, Bill Rhyne and the Rev. Floyd Rhyne, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8:30 tonight, May 28, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Bill Roop officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Zion Cemetery in Claxton. The family will be at the home of Carl Rhyne, 8200 Ewing Road, Powell.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
