Amarante was the son of Bonifacio and Feliz "Felicitas" C. Trujillo. Identified siblings were Filomena, Marina, Marcos, Juanita, Patricia, Estevan, Pablo, and Eufracia.

Amarante enlisted in the Army on 3 Sep 1942; He was described as 66 inches and 139 pounds. He was with the Battery D of the 197th Coast Artillery. The 197th was posted in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia during World War II. Battery D operated 4 x 3" guns and used an early model antiaircraft radar, the SCR-268.
