EARL GUESSFORD KILLED IN ACTION
Former Williamsport "Wildcat" Ball Player Killed In France.


Pvt. Earl M. Guessford, 35-year-old son of Mrs. Edward Guessford, Virginia avenue, Halfway, was killed in action in France on August 27, less than a year after he entered the army. Word of his death was received by his mother yesterday.

He is survived by his wife and three sons, Earl M. Jr., Sidney and Page, and daughter, Joyce, all of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Clarence, this city; Fred, Roy and Ralph, all of Halfway; sisters, Mrs. Olive Arnsparger, Funkstown; Mrs. Mary Hildebrand, this city; Mrs. Myrtle Swope, Shepherdstown.

Known to his friends as "Fritz," the local infantryman had been a member of the Williamsport "Wildcats" when the Washington County Baseball League was functioning. He entered the army in September of 1943, having been formerly employed at the Byron Tannery in Williamsport.
