Minnie was born with chronic endocarditis, not expected to live and was baptised the same day. Named for her father's sister Emma and her mother's sister Mary (known as Minnie).

But she surprised everyone and outlived her parents, surviving until age 35.

Minnie was a beautiful young woman, both in spirit and physical attributes. She was a gifted musician, taught piano and was an excellent accompanist as noted in her nephew's memoir.
