Actress. Born to Myrtle Belle Miller and Clarence Webb, Chief of Police in Santa Monica, California. As a child, she studied dance and was rated an expert swimmer and fine equestrienne before leaving school. In June of 1927, after a series of screen tests, she signed a contract by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Her career never amounted to more than bit parts, however. She met band leader Rudy Vallee while he was making "The Vagabond Lover" in 1929, while she was still living at home. They were married in 1931, and she abandoned her career to move with him to New York. Less than two years later, divorce proceedings were initiated with each accusing the other of adultery , she added that he had a "vicious and ungovernable temper." Her case did not go well for her, as she was too ill to attend court. Her health continued poorly, and in November 1936 she underwent abdominal surgery in Santa Monica. The operation resulted in complications, peritonitis set in, and she lapsed into a coma. Despite efforts, she failed to respond and succumbed after two days at the age of 29.
