In Probate Court, April Term May 8th, 1875 PRESENT, the Hon. JW Moore, Judge In the Matter of the Estate of Stephen Garrett, deceased. And now, on this day comes A. F. Whitley, and presents to Court his petition in writing, under oath, praying that Letters of Administration on the Estate of Stephen Garrett, deceased, issue to A. F. Whitley, which petition is examined by the Court and ordered to be filed and recorded; and it appearing to the Court from allegations contained in said petition, and from other good and sufficient evidence that the said Stephen Garrett departed this life at his house in Etowah County, Alabama on or about the 3rd day of Oct, 1869, being at the time of his death an inhabitant of said county; that he died leaving assests in this county which, the Legislator of Alabama having Confine & Jurisdiction of said Estate in this court. A. F. Whitley was appointed Administrator. Bond was made by A. F. Whitley, Joseph Phillips & John H. Campbell on 8th May 1875.
∼Stephen Garrett was born in Laurens, SC and married Catherine Anna Perry in Laurens. According to the records I have they had 10 children. Polly, Sarah, Jane, Simeon, Nathan,Fanny, William, Martha Elizabeth, Ambros, and Nancy A.
I don't know when they moved to Alabama. Daughter, Jane married Joseph Phillips in Tuscaloosa, AL on Sep 4, 1855.

They also are listed in 1850 census in Blount County. Stephen is a farmer.In 1860 his occupation is wheel maker and son William is a blacksmith.
