Mary Emma Airey Ada (Bennett) Parcells was this writer's 3rd cousin.

She went by the name Emma most of the time. She was the daughter of Fielding Dick Bennett (1828-1900) and Pembrook (Campbell) (Smith) Bennett (1838-1920). She had 4 full siblings:

Ezekiel Robinson Day Bennett (1869-1957)
Lydia Canzadia May "Zadie/Sadie" (Bennett) (Todd) Dodd (1876- ),
William Bennett (1878-1878)
Lovena Bennett (1879-1883)

She had two half-brothers:

John F. Bennett (1854-1930) from her father's first marriage
James Thomas Ditimus Smith (1858-1920) from her mother's first marriage.

Emma married widower Edwin Winship Parcells, Jr. (1860-1942) on 7 May 1893 in Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri. Edwin had 3 children from his first marriage to Susan "Sadie" Cunningham:

Jeanette Ann Parcells, born 1888
George William Parcells, born 1890
Sadie Parcells, born & died 1892

Edwin's wife Sadie had died at the birth of their third child, also named Sadie; and baby Sadie also died on the day she was born.

Emma raised the two remaining children, Nettie and George, and she and Edwin had 3 children of their own:

Inez May (Parcells) Hudson (1894-1976),
Ethel Rebecca (Parcells) Kornfield (1896-1949)
Earle Fielding Parcells (1901-1917)

In 1900 the Parcells family was farming and living in Pettis Township of Adair County, Missouri. By 1910, the family had moved to Hannibal, Marion County, Missouri, where Edwin and their daughters Inez and Ethel, and Edwin's son George were working at the Shoe Factory in Hannibal.

Sometime between 1910 and 1915, Emma and Edwin were divorced. Edwin went to live with his son George who was then living in Ft. Madison, Iowa. Emma went to live in Springfield, Illinois, where her brother Robinson Bennett lived.

On October 2, 1917, Emma and Edwin's son, 16-year-old Earle Fielding Parcells, was struck and killed by a train while handing a message to the engineer. He is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.

Emma died 22 April 1941 in Illinois and is buried beside her son Earle. Her brother Robinson Bennett was later buried near her in this cemetery. This information about the location of these graves was written in a letter from Robinson Bennett's son, Eugene, to this writer's grandparents in 1957.
