E. HENSINGER TAKEN - Prominent Citizen Fell on Street- Funeral Today
Rathdrum Tribune 5 Nov 1937
-This community received another shock as the sudden death of E.P. Hensinger Tuesday evening. He dropped dead with a heart attack on the sidewalk near the hardware store about 5:35 o'clock while conversing with a friend after walking from Evans store corner east to the vacant lot west of the hardware. Paul Reiniger was with him and saw him as he grasped the railing. Dr. Horning was called from his office in the bank building and responed immediately but life was extintct.
-He had not been ill but had complained during the day of feeling tired. At the commissioners' meeting at Coeur d'Alene during the forenoon he had to lie down to rest. Besides looking after official duties he had been busy lately fitting up his new home in the east part of town.
-Mr. Hensinger was county commissioner from the third district. He was also a member of the school and village boards here, and commander of the Spanish-American War Veterans post at Coeur d'Alene. Quite recently he was chosen president of the newly organized Cabinet Gorge and Rathdrum Prairie Development association and was perfecting plans for putting in on a paid membership basis and arranging for a general meeting here on November 4. Due to his death this meeting was canceled by order of C.F. Hess, secretary.
-Coming her from Four Lakes, Wash, in 1929, Mr. Hensinger and family moved out to Sylvan-side ranch at the edge of town in 1930, remaining there until they moved back into town this year. He became active in civic affairs and took a leading part in securing improved roads in this vicinity as well as elsewhere in the county. He is said to have contracted malaria in the Philippine war and this had impaired his health. As his condition improved in the last few years he devoted more and more time to public service, and at the time of his death was serving his second therm as county commissioner.
-Besides tow daughters, Mrs. Weaver and Mrs. Larson, at Usk, Wash., he is survived by his widow, Estella, and a daughter, Ada Louise, 14, at home.
-Funeral services are to be held at the Methodist church here at 1:30 this afternoon, the Rev. H. L. Slick officiating. Interment is to be in the veterans' plot in Forest cemetery, Coeur d'Alene.
