Son of Meshac Tipton (1758-1853) and Hester CLARK Tipton (1764-1830)

James was married 3 times, first to Sarah Brinckley, Second to Sarah 'Sallie' Walker and thirdly to Christenia CURRIER Henderson. He had most if not all of his children by Sarah Walker.

James' oldest 2 sons, James and Thomas married sisters, Mary Jane and Nancy Elanor Henderson. They were Christenia CURRIER Henderson's oldest 2 daughters.

After Christenia's first husband Thomas died, she and James Tipton (the father of her sons in-law) became partners (Researchers have not found proof of marriage.)

He was originally buried in the Henderson Cemetery. The whole Henderson Cemetery was moved in 1965, when a dam was built.

*Family lore has it that Christenia and James also helped raise other children that were not their own (foster.) The blending of this family has caused much confusion for family researchers.

*I am related to James' daughter (or foster daughter) Prudence. Over the years she has been confused with Chistenia's daughter Elizabeth. Prudence's name is often found 'Prudence Elizabeth Henderson.'

*Prudence is probably at least partially American Indian.
