Obituary of Julia Lawer Walrod
Crab Orchard Herald, Nebraska 12 March 1909: Mrs Julia Walrod died Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. B. Harrington, after a brief illness, aged 89 years, 8 months and 14 days. Until a few days before her death she had been in good health and was able to attend the meetings at the U. B. Church, which she enjoyed very much, as she did all religious services. The latter part of last week she began to feel poorly and on Monday she lapsed into unconsciousness, passing away between four and five o'clock p.m. Funeral services were held at ten o'clock Wednesday morning in the Methodist Church, and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. C. Colmer, assisted by Rev. W. G. Rooker of the U. B. Church. The remains were taken to Beatrice on the noon train, where another brief service was held, and interment was made beside her husband. Julia Anna Lawer was born in Erie, Erie, Pennsylvania 24 June 1819. She was married 3 February 1836 to Abram Walrod. To this union were born fourteen children, eight of whom survive her. There are 34 grandchildren and 60 great grandchildren. The eight living children are: Mrs. A. B. Harrington, Mrs. W. W. Burr, Mrs. James Walrod, all of Crab Orchard; Mrs Thomas Harvey of Omaha, Mrs. John Harrington of Sioux City, Lewis Walrod of Beatrice, Henry Walrod of Erie, Pennsylvania and George Walrod of Alcester, South Dakota. With her husband and children the deceased moved to Iowa in 1840 and lived there until 22 years ago, when they located in Beatrice, Nebraska. Ten years later her husband died, and since that time Mrs. Walrod's home has been with her children. Grandma Walrod was converted and joined the Methodist church 45 years ago, and since that time was an earnest and consistent worker for her Master. She was, at the time of her death, a member of the Crab Orchard Methodist church. She died as she had lived, her last words being uttered in the praise of the Lord, in whom she had such great faith.
