OBITUARY:

"Rev Sam W Rose, aged 66 had he lived until November 3, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Will Copeland, St Charles, Virginia of heart failure on Thursday of last week. The remains were brought to Crab Orchard, where he had long made his home until recent years, and were interred at Haley's Grove cemetery Saturday. Rev Dock Smith conducted the funeral services.

The deceased had been a member of the Baptist church for 40 years. He was the 12th child of a family of 14; the 4 oldest died when young of scarlet fever. He was the father of 6 children, 4 sons and 2 daughters. 3 of the sons, Allen, Albert and Horace, reside in Florida and were not present at the funeral. Mrs Will Copeland and family were here from Virginia to attend the funeral, as was a son, William Rose, Cookeville, but a daughter, Mrs Anna Hines of California, was unable to be present. He is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs H Lee Dunbar and Mrs G A Haley, both of Crossville, and 1 brother, Shelly J Rose, Crab Orchard. He was married twice; both wives preceded him to the grave. One sister, Nancy Rose, died at the age of 21, after which there was not a death in the Rose family for 47 years. Since then 6 have died, 3 since Christmas 1931.

The deceased was respected by all who knew him. In his private life, he was exemplary and never failed to stand firmly for those things that were conducive to good citizenship and progress of his community. For several years, he was a minister of the gospel and always urged with unswerving devotion for the highest character of Christian living."
