Rebecca Hernandez, 87, entered into rest at Mountain Towers Healthcare on Feb. 14 following a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Denver to the late Albert and Anna Hernandez.
On Oct. 31, 1934, she was united in marriage to Perfecto Hernandez in Torrington.
Rebecca managed the cafeteria at the Sioux Army Depot in Sidney, Neb., for 14 years. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Rebecca and Perfecto lived in Minatare, Neb., the Sioux Army Depot in Sidney, Neb., and after retiring in 1980 they moved to Cheyenne from Riverdale, N.D.
Rebecca was presented with the Depot's Community Service Award for her special contribution to the community by giving freely of her own time, extraordinary skills and helping civic and church groups. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she regularly attended services prior to her illness.
Rebecca is survived by her husband, Perfecto; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Lydia and Paul Sullivan and Valerie and Charlie O'Brien, all of Cheyenne; three sons and daughters-in-laws, Chuck and Jan Hernandez of Des Moines, Iowa, Art and Mary Hernandez of Omaha, Neb., and Dale Hernandez of Cheyenne; four sisters, Sarah and Jess Arroyo of Tucson, Ariz., Virginia and Manual Alvarez of Minatare, Neb., Caroline Nation of Las Vegas and Lucy Hernandez of Grand Junction, Colo.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Albert Hernandez and William and Rita Hernandez, all of Cheyenne; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Ferdinand Hernandez; two sisters; and two grandchildren.
