John F. Couzens
COUZENS, John F. - Age 69, of Portland, Oregon, passed away September 11, 1997 at his home. He was born October 30, 1927 in Baker City, Oregon to William A. Couzens and Veda E. Rhodes. John graduated from Imbler High School in 1945 and attained a BA at Linfield College in 1949 and was the editor of the school paper, BS at Eastern Oregon College in 1955 and a MA in 1956. He was in the Navy during WWII and the Army during the Korean War. He was the Principal at Fruitdale Union Elementary in LaGrande, Oregon in 1955-56 and teacher and assistant principal in Hines, Oregon 1957-1971 and Principal and Superintendent at Glendale, Oregon 1971-1985. He was at Our Lady of Sorrows 1987-1993. He was married June 3, 1950 to Patricia A. O'Neil. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Burns Elks Club, charter President of the Glendale Lions Club and a member of the Ascension Catholic Church. He was a member of Who's Who in American Colleges in 1949. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Couzens of Portland, Oregon, three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Jake Defenbaugh of Portland, Lynda and Michael Fine of Burns, Oregon, Lisa and Rich Blackmun of Cornelius, Oregon and five grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 1997 at Ascension Catholic Church, 7507 S. E. Yamhill, Portland, Oregon.
