Born January 30, 1927 in Scotland, IN, she was the daughter of Aaron Ralph and Mary Hazel Whitaker Hasler of Newberry, and was raised in Indianapolis by her Uncle Zach T. and Aunt Kathryn Whitaker Catron.
She was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School and received her BA from Indiana University in Home Economics in 1949. She was employed by Walker Research for 25 years, beginning as their home economist and retiring as an account executive in 1991. She was active in the School #59 PTA, the Indianapolis Dental Society and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority at IU. She enjoyed playing bridge at the Shepherd Center at St. Paul's and the Riviera Club, taking classes at the Indianapolis Art Center, and watching IU basketball. She was a long-time volunteer at OASIS (Glendale) and belonged to Northminster Presbyterian Church.
The widow of Walter Scott Hargis D.D.S., she is survived by her children: Deborah Hargis Bulloff (Steven), Christopher Scott Hargis, Timothy Kent Hargis (Stacey), all of Indianapolis; and Barbara K. Hargis of Eugene, Oregon; her brother, J. Richard Hasler of Bloomington; and her grandchildren: Elizabeth and Kathryn Bulloff, and Zachary and Riley Hargis.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 Kessler Boulevard East Drive, Indianapolis. Family will receive friends on Thursday at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m.
Burial will be at Scotland Cemetery.
