HAUGHTON, LA – A graveside service for Marjorie Johnston Raines Clayton will be held at Fillmore Cemetery in Fillmore, LA on Friday, May 28, at 4:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Crosby and Chaplain Dana Casey.
Marjorie was born April 16, 1936, in Baton Rouge to Ruby Pearl Mouser Johnston and Floyd Gordon Johnston. She was raised in Grayson, LA and resided in Haughton until her death on Thursday, May 20, 2010.
She passed away peacefully at her home after being diagnosed with ALS in November of 2009.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in education from Louisiana Tech University and a Master's Plus Thirty in education from LSU – Shreveport. She was a teacher in Bossier Parish for more than 30 years at Platt and T.L. Rodes elementary schools. She was a member of the Louisiana Upsilon chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority and the Shreveport Writers Club. Her hobbies included writing, reading, cooking and gardening.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Bob Clayton, of Haughton; her son Bobby Raines, and his wife, Laura, of Shreveport; son Gordon Raines, and his wife, Martha, of Broussard; stepdaughter Kaye Van Wicklen and her husband Matt of San Antonio, TX and Kathryn Bonner of Hot Springs, AK; ten grandchildren, Beau Raines, 1st Lt. Russell Raines, Christina Raines, James Hunsicker, Ben Hunsicker, and Hillary Hunsicker, of Shreveport, William Raines and Jennifer Raines of Broussard, Russell Pollard of Purcell, OK, and Emily Bonner of Hot Springs, AK; and six great grandchildren, Alexander Hunsicker, Andrew Raines, Jace Smith, Leatha Hill, Amberlyn and Justy Pollard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Beauchamp Raines Sr., her parents, Floyd Gordon Johnston and Ruby Pearl Mouser Johnston; and grandchildren Aaron McCoy and Kaci Pollard.
The family would like to thank her neighbors and friends who made Marjorie's last few months more comfortable. Many thanks also to the Willis Knighton Hospice staff and her special nurse Carol Humphries, as well as Dr. Harrington who supported her through this difficult illness.
