Ruth Hextell, 74, of Newark, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at South Orlando Hospital in Florida.

Mrs. Hextell was born March 27, 1926 in Tazewell County, IL., to Paschal and Edith (Hatch) Allen. She married Howard Hextell on December 20, 1947. She was a graduate of Green Valley High School, received a B.A. in music from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Education from Northern Illinois University. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plano, a career school teacher at the Newark Grade School and was active in the Newark Women's Club. She was an avid gardener both in Newark and in Texas and in Florida, where she wintered after her retirement 19 years ago.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Paul, of Orange City, Florida; three daughters, Jane (Karl) Norem of Ottawa, Carol (Ed) Sleezer, of Millbrook and Tina (Jeff) McCoy of Windham, NH.; nine grandchildren, Corinne and Jason Norem, Andrew, Dane, Rachel and Meredith Sleezer, Jake, James and Jon McCoy; one sister, Ada File of Houston, TX.; three brothers, Franklin of Delavan, IL., Jonathan of Mission, TX. and Miles of Green Valley.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Louise, in infancy; a son, Jon; her parents; and a brother, Pascal of Green Valley.

Memorials may be directed to the Charles B. Phillips Library in Newark.

A memorial mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plano with Father Leo Lefebure officiating.
