MAN DEAD OF SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND
Waynesboro, Pa. — A 41 year-old South Mountain area man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his home late Thursday morning, according to state police.
WALTER FRANKLIN BRENNAN, JR. was found by his wife, Ethel.
Franklin County Coroner Dr. John P. Manges said death was instantaneous as a result of the wound to the head. He set the time of death at 10:45 a.m.
He was removed to the Grove Funeral Home here.

FORMER AREA RESIDENT DIES
Funeral services for WALTER FRANKLIN BRENNAN, JR., a veteran of World War II, who formerly resided in the Gettysburg area, were held this morning with requiem Mass in St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Fr. W. E. Sawdy officiating. Interment was in Gettysburg National Cemetery.
Brennan, 42, a resident of South Mountain and father of eight children, was found dead at his home Thursday by his wife. Dr. John P Manges, Franklin County coroner, who said Brennan had been despondent, listed the death as caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound of the head. He was found in the kitchen of his home shortly after 11 o'clock Thursday morning.
A native of Altoona, he was a son of Mrs. Margaret Diengler Brennan, York, and the late Walter F. Brennan, Sr. When he was a young man the family moved to the Gettysburg area. During World War II he served with the Navy in the Pacific Fleet.
Mr. and Mrs. Brennan were married in February, 1944, following his discharge from the Navy. The couple resided in York and in White Hall, Md., before moving to South Mountain three years ago. A carpenter, he was employed by W. R. Oyer, Inc., and was a member of Holy Rosary Chapel, South Mountain.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, are his mother, of York, and eight children: James, Charles, Michael, John, Thomas, Patricia, Theresa and Mary, all at home; three brothers and three sisters: Raymond L. Brennan and Charles R. Brennan, both of Baltimore; Frederick Brennan and Mrs. Cletus Shirey, both of York; Mrs. Herman Kriess, Jr., White Hall, Md., and Mrs. Paul Wall, New Bloomfield.
