Sgt Smith age 20 #412 Falcon Squadron(Promptus Ad Vindictum) was killed when his Spitfire aircraft #H 4176 was in a mid-air collision near Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England.

Collided with another Spitfire while practising combat and crashed into a wheat-field after the fuselage was cut in two during the collision, destroying it and killing the pilot Sgt RG Smith. Pilot of the other aircraft survived.
