Christina Ingrid Lucas, 96, of Harbor, died Oct. 24, 2008, at her home of age-related causes.

She was born Sept. 8, 1912, in Loma Linda, Calif., to Gustaf and Kristina Nielson Fresk.

Her mother died when she was a toddler, and she was raised primarily in Oregon by family members.

Mrs. Lucas moved to Harbor and married Leo Lester Lucas in the 1940s. They owned a ranch up the Chetco River, and raised sheep. The Lucas family grew a large vegetable garden each year, and Mrs. Lucas enjoyed sharing the produce with others.

Mrs. Lucas worked for a number of years as a cook at the Brookings-Harbor High School cafeteria. She cooked at a large hunters' camp during the hunting seasons and also cooked for the ranch hands. She was an expert at stretching a meal to include unexpected guests at her table, and did so with ease and grace, making all feel welcome, her family said.

She baked many pies for the high school booster club fundraisers, she also volunteered for the Kalmiopsis reading program, and enjoyed quilting at First Baptist Community Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Helen and Randy Wenbourne of Smith River, Calif.; grandchildren Sean Wenbourne and his companion Mary Blandau of Medford, Larry Wenbourne and his companion Lynzi Johnson of Harbor, and Christina and Dan Skinner of Medford; great-grandchildren Gracie Wenbourne of Medford, Konner Wenbourne of Harbor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 1978.

No service is planned. To honor Mrs. Lucas, the family requests floral memorials be given to an elderly friend or neighbor. Memorial donations may be made to a children's program of the donor's choice.

Arrangements under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
