John met and married Keziah Davis in 1798 in Georgia. They moved to Jones County, MS around 1800. They would go on to have several children together, the youngest being Daniel Knight.
John was a very famous slave owner in Mississippi and owned over 100 slaves on his plantation at one point. He was known as a racist man and was a very hard owner. John and Keziah oldest son Albert would go on to have Newton Knight who became a very famous face in the Jones County area during the Civil War. Often protecting the state as well as deserting during the war twice. He later married one of his grandfather John's slaves Rachel Knight. They would be the first in the area to have interacial children. According to my grandmother John was not happy with his nephew defending the slaves as well as marrying one.
John died in 1861 just a couple years after his wife Keziah in 1859. He left many of his slaves and plantation to his children but made clear his grandson Newt was not allowed any of it.
