Sam Ballard, 51, Dies Unexpectedly Early This Morn
Sam Ballard, a resident of Archer City for 18 of the past 20 years, died unexpectedly shortly before 6 o'clock this morning after having suffered a stomach hemorrhage a few hours earlier. Ballard, aged 51, had been the victim of a chronic stomach ailment for the past many years having undergone an operation for ulcers of the stomach several years ago. According to members of the family, he was apparently feeling good Wednesday.
Ballard was well known in Archer City and was admired and respected by all. He was a native Texan, born January 7, 1900, in Paris TX where he grew into young manhood. He was married there April 30, 1920, to Laura Eugene Hawkins, with whom he moved to Young County where they lived about one year before moving with their family to Archer City where they made their home until moving to Littlefield some 5 years ago where Ballard engaged in water well drilling for two years then moved back to Archer City three years ago re-entering oil field work.
Funeral services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock with the pastor Rev. J.R. Naylor, officiating. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Archer City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Perry Pittman, Luther Key, B.M. Pickard, Joe Fields, Aure Campbell, and Fred Walsh.
Survivors are the wife and four children, Mrs. Paschal Gosler of Archer City; Mrs. Freddy Barlow of Wichita Falls; Sammy Ballard Jr. of Archer City; and Tommy Ballard of Olton TX; three sisters, Mrs. Roy Jackson and Mrs. Robert Hewgley, both of Paris; Mrs. Esther Warren of Dallas; and one brother Jack Ballard of Paris. He also leaves 6 grandchildren.
