George Robert "Luke" Wilson

A memorial service for George Robert "Luke" Wilson of Elsberry, MO will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Connie Atchley, pastor of the Elsberry First Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006 in the Elsberry City Cemetery.
Mr. Wilson, 70, died Sunday evening, March 12, 2006 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born December 12, 1935 in Elsberry, MO, he was the son of the late Dr. Gion Gilmore and Matred Naomi Levengood Wilson. He was a 1954 graduate of Elsberry High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO in 1959. He also earned a Masters Degree in Counseling and Physical Education from Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville, MO in 1963. Mr. Wilson taught physical education and coached basketball in several Missouri communities during his teaching career. He had a record of over 300 wins as a basketball coach. After retiring from teaching and coaching, he returned to Elsberry and worked for several years at Forrest Keeling Nursery. He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed collecting arrowheads, guns and knives. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Elsberry.
He was preceded in death by his parents Matred Wilson in 1994 and his father, Dr. Gion Wilson in 1997.
Survivors include his son, Wynn G. Wilson of Columbia, MO; and one grandson, Michael Wynn Wilson of Centralia, MO. He also leaves one brother, Brent "Doc" Wilson and his wife, Kim, of Elsberry; two nephews: Blake Wilson and his wife, Julie, and J. Bryan Wilson, all of Elsberry; several other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. Wednesday until time of the memorial service at the Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Memorials may be made to the Elsberry First Christian Church - Memorial Fund in care of Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth Street, Elsberry, MO 63343.
