Mary Conway Buffkin, 63, an 18-year resident of Crossville, passed away May 23, 2010, after a two-year struggle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, at First United Methodist Church of Crossville, with the Rev. John Halliburton and the Rev. James Beasley officiating. Burial will be at the Crossville City Cemetery immediately following the service.

Mrs. Buffkin was born Oct. 24, 1946, in Rome, NY, the second of four children to Major Howard V. Conway and wife Nancy Moses Conway.

She was a K-8th grade elementary school teacher in North Carolina for eight years and an engineering recruiter for 17 years in North Carolina, Ohio and Tennessee. She was a certified personnel consultant. She worked for the past 14 years as an occupational therapy practitioner, certified and licensed in Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina. The past four and a half years she worked at the Life Care Center in Sparta. She was a member of AOTA and a Methodist, having served on various committees.

Beloved survivors left to mourn her passing include her husband of 30 years, Gil Buffkin; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and David Overbay; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Melissa Buffkin, all of Crossville; stepchildren, Lori Danzeisen and Paul and wife Melisa Buffkin, all of Wilmington, NC; 13 grandchildren, six in Wilmington, NC, and seven in Crossville; brothers, Judge H. Vincent Conway and wife Gynetha of Newport News, VA, and James M. Conway and wife Carol of Roanoke, VA; many nieces and nephews, good friends and neighbors and the New Covenant Sunday school class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her fraternal and maternal grandparents; youngest brother, Douglas Ray Conway; stepfather, James A. Combs; father-in-law, G.H. Buffkin; and sister-in-law, Janice C. Buffkin.

Pallbearers will be Jim Everett, Gary Ware, David Simcox, Bill Oglesby, Jim Bridges, Lynn Carson, Tom Looney and Jack Looney.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County, the First United Methodist Church of Crossville or the Life Care Center of Sparta — Rehab Department.
