Trooper, Royal Canadian Dragoons, serving with 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, based in Petawawa, Ontario. He had deployed with the Canadian contingent of NATO forces serving in Afghanistan.

Tpr Rudd was killed by when his armoured vehicle struck an improvised explosive device near the village of Salavat in Panjawai district about 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar city.

Aged 26, he was raised in Brantford, Ontario. He enlisted on September 6, 2007. Described as a "gentle giant", he was dynamic and motivated, generous and outgoing. Tpr Rudd will be remembered by colleagues as a professional soldier who never complained regardless of the hardships he and his crew endured. Friends recalled that he had a great sense of humour and always took the side of the underdog.

Tpr Rudd leaves behind his mother Helen Zuidema, grandmother Toni, uncle William Zuidema, cousins Nathan Zuidema and Zachary Palen, along with other relatives and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother Ken Roy Rudd and his grandfather John Zuidema.

Funeral with military honours was held June 4, 2010 at Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, Brantford, followed by cremation. Thousands of residents lined the streets for the funeral procession to the Brantford Cenotaph.

Canada has lost 146 service personnel since the Afghanistan mission began in 2002. One diplomat, a journalist and two aid workers have also died.
