Edward J. Gaughan, Jr., 89, of Bristol, beloved husband of Sylvia (Dallaire) Gaughan, passed away on Saturday (May 15, 2010) at Bristol Hospital.

He was born March 14, 1921 in Bristol, son of the late Edward J. Gaughan, Sr. and Mary (Murray) Gaughan.

A lifelong resident of Bristol, he had served with the U.S. Army, in the Pacific Theater, during World War II. Ed married his wife, Sylvia P. Dallaire, on February 7, 1948.

He was employed as a tool and die tradesman at Wallace Barnes for forty-six years until his retirement. After his retirement, he went to work for ShopRite Supermarket in Bristol for over fifteen years.

He was an amateur duck pin bowler with the Wallace Barnes bowling team, liked to play golf and also play cards with his buddies at 580. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2 and St. Matthew Church. He was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts and wrestling team at the Oak Hill School when his son, Bill, was in grammar school. He attended all of his grandchildren's activities, helped them through college and was always there for them.

Besides his wife, Sylvia, he is survived by his son, William E. Gaughan of Plainville; his daughter, Kathleen G. Fabiano of Bristol; his two grandchildren, Scott C. Fields and his wife, Kathleen, and their daughter, Abigael, of Bristol and Megan E. Fields of Portsmouth, NH; his two brothers, Henry J. Gaughan and his wife, Frances, of Bristol and James J. Gaughan and his wife, Alice, of Bristol; his sister-in-law, Geneva "Jean" Gaughan of Bristol; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Philip M. Gaughan, Sr., Peter J. Gaughan, Catherine Francoeur, and Mary Schieding.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Matthew Church, Forestville.
Entombment with full military honors accorded will follow in the Holy Family Chapel Mausoleum at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
Relatives and friends may call at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Avenue, Forestville, on Thursday from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.
