Mary was born Feb. 13, 1928 in Wabash, Indiana to John and Mevel (Props) Bechtol of Lagro. She graduated from Lagro High School in 1946, and married William O. Baker in Wabash County on August 13, 1950. Mary Jane was employed at Diehl Machine Works and Ford Meter Box Co., retiring in 1989. A lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Wabash, she enjoyed giving of her time in service committees. She was also active in the Wabash Garden Club and the Lagro Century Club.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband, William Baker of Wabash, son, Matthew, daughter-in-law, Nancy, and grandchildren, Andrew, Madeline, and Samuel, all of Valparaiso. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Miriam Bechtol, of West Chazy, New York, four nephews, and three nieces. She was preceded in death by brothers, Bud, John, and Robert Bechtol, and sisters-in-law, Burneda and Betty Bechtol.

Mary Jane loved working outside in her flower gardens, basket making, cooking for friends and family, and being with her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Mary Jane relished the art of homemaking and particularly enjoyed arranging large family gatherings. Her loving spirit will be carried on in the lives of all she touched and our memories will be treasured.
