PENDLETON - Grace Eileen Kerr, 82, of Pendleton died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 17 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Pendleton. Visitation will be held from noon-5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton.

Mrs. Kerr was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Alton, Ill. to Fred and Ruth Buckner. She graduated from College High School in 1944 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. After graduation she entered the Cadet Nurses Corp in St. Louis, Mo.; she moved to Pendleton in 1946 to complete her nurse's training at St. Anthony Hospital, receiving her cap in 1948.

She married Jack Kerr in 1949 in Pilot Rock. Their entire life was spent in Pendleton raising their family and contributing to the community.

Her employment included nursing for Drs. McGowan and Bittner, Pendleton Community Hospital and St. Anthony Hospital, and teaching at BMCC as a nursing instructor; she retired in 1985 from the Eastern Oregon State Hospital as psychiatric ward supervisor.

She enjoyed the annual luncheons with the graduate nurses from St. Anthony Hospital, where she had developed lifelong friendships. She enjoyed being a 4-H sewing leader, the camaraderie of her bridge clubs, quilting, and volunteering at The Bargain Counter. Family reunions were always something she looked forward to, and she enjoyed vacationing with her sisters in various locations in Oregon over the past few years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.

Mrs. Kerr is survived by daughter Susan Anderson of Condon; son John Kerr of Milwaukie; stepson Richard Kerr of Anchorage, Alaska; brother John Buckner; sisters Mildred Turner of Pendleton, Retha Smith of Dufur, and Freda Wyss of Pendleton; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband Jack Kerr in 1992; stepson Douglas Kerr; sister Lois Sewell; and two nephews and one niece.
