John Leroy Thompson is the son of Napoleon B. and Augusta "Gussie" (Tharpe) Thompson. He married Maggie Louise Hunter, a distant cousin, about 1942. According to his obituary, Leroy was retired from Tube Turns, a charter member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a member of DAV. He is survived by 3 daughters; 2 sons; and a sister, Maymee Clark (died 2010); seven grandchildren; and five great-grand-children.
