William Paul Gwin, 550 North Hermitage Road, Hermitage, missing since Dec. 9, 1978, was found dead Friday in Denmark Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio. He was 31.

The Ashtabula County Sheriff's office said his body was found Thursday afternoon in a wooded area off State Route 167, within half a mile from where his car had been found abandoned Saturday.

The sheriff's investigator reported a policeman conducting a search with a dog discovered Gwin, who had apparently taken his own life. He said a .41 caliber magnum revolver was in his possession.

The Ashtabula County coroner was conducting a post mortem this morning and a ruling was expected later today.

Authorities indicated death occurred about December 10, the day after Gwin disappeared.

A life member of the community, he was a graduate of Hickory High School and graduated from Youngstown State University in 1970.

From 1970 to 1974 he served with the Air Force.

He was employed as a design engineer at Commercial Shearing and Stamping Inc., Youngstown.

Mr. Gwin attended First Presbyterian Church Sharon.
