Dorothy F. White, 80, of 42 Lisbon St., died Monday at her home.

Mrs. White worked at Community General Hospital, Liberty, as a nurse's assistant in the emergency room and as supervisor of central supply until retiring after 15 years of service. Previously, she had worked in Syracuse and operated a store in Constantia.

She was a member and elder of Heuvelton Presbyterian Church and a member of the United Presbyterian Women. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed sewing and square dancing.

Born Jan. 14, 1919, in Heuvelton, daughter of Chester A. and Eva McClure Backus, she graduated from Heuvelton High School.

She married Vincent E. White on June 4, 1939, at her parents' home in Heuvelton, with the Rev. Allan C. Bowering officiating.

The couple moved to Syracuse, where Mrs. White worked at Westinghouse Co. for a short time. They then moved to Constantia, where they operated a general store for 15 years.

In 1960, they moved to Liberty. Mr. White died March 11, 1977. Mrs. White lived in Liberty until 1979, when she returned to Heuvelton.

Surviving are a son, Oscar, Swan Lake; a daughter, Mrs. David (Wanda) Allison, Irmo, S.C.; three grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A brother, Howard Backus, died before her.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Heuvelton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Scott Barton officiating. A graveside service will be at noon Friday in Constantia Rural Cemetery.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.
