Robert C. Bowman, 77, of Volney St., Phoenix, NY, passed away Saturday January 9, 2010. A life resident, he was born to the late Homer J. and Pearl M. (Prashaw) Bowman. A graduate of Phoenix High School, Class of 1950, Bob attended Dayton University and later was in active duty in the Coast Guard aboard a cutter ship. Bob was a general contractor for Bowman Builders Co. since 1955. He also served as a village trustee, Schroeppel town supervisor for two terms, and other local government positions. He was a committed parishioner of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Phoenix; a 55-year member of the Phoenix Fire Dept.; VFW Post 5540, Phoenix; and continuous supporter of various organizations in the greater community. Predeceased by his son, Bryan A. "Barney" Bowman, in 1999, and his sisters, Ova Reed in 2002 and Dorothy Hamm in 1984. Surviving are his loving wife of 25 years, Donna (Manchester) Bowman; his sons, Mark E. (Bonnie G.) Bowman of Baldwinsville, Chris A. (Susan) Bowman of Syracuse and John P. Bowman of San Francisco, CA; a daughter, Theresa (Frank Brown) Bowman of Syracuse; a daughter-in-law, Karen A. Bowman of Phoenix; stepsons and stepdaughter, Martin (Christine) Polmanteer, Michelle (Robert) O'Gorman and Randy (Suzanne) Polmanteer; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Homer F. Bowman of Oswego; two sisters, Kay Kinne of Phoenix and Donna (Bill) Gavula of Endicott; and several nieces and nephews. Services will begin 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass in St. Stephen's Church. Burial with military and firefighter honors will be in the spring in Phoenix Rural Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 431 Main Street, Phoenix. Bowman, 77, of Phoenix, NY, who died January 9, 2010, will be Saturday, May 29, at 11 a.m. in Phoenix Rural Cemetery, 126 Chestnut St. Deacon Frank Forish will officiate. The mayor will speak regarding Bob's long-standing civic involvement; the members of the Phoenix Fire Dept. will be bearers and present firefighter honors; and the U.S. Coast Guard and the firing squad detail of VFW Post 5540, Phoenix, will perform military rites.
