On June 20, 1954, Ruby was united in marriage to Eugene Bagwell. The couple made their home in Denison where Gene worked for the Denison Community School System. The couple enjoyed Arizona winters after retiring in 1988 before settling there in 2003. Before Gene's death in 2006, the couple moved to Longmont, Colorado, where Ruby continued to live. She was a second grade school teacher in Vail, Iowa, for 40 years.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; and one sister, Donna. Survivors include: one son, John and his wife, Janis; three granddaughters: Jenny and her husband, Ben and their children, Logan and Micaela; Jamie and her husband, Richard; and Jacque and her husband, James; one sister, Linda and her husband, Bill; other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Deacon Jon Jacobsen officiated the service and inurnment at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Musical selections included "How Great Thou Art," "Beautiful Savior" and "Amazing Grace."
