Irene attended the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, IA. Upon graduating she went to Bellevue Hospital in New York City where she met and married Dr. Charles Terzo and they moved to Danbury, CT.
Irene attended Western Connecticut State College earning her B.S degree. She went on to earn her Masters of Education degree from Columbia University, specializing in mental health and psychiatric nursing. She was appointed to the Nursing Education Faculty of Pace College, Pleasantville, NY and was elected Chairperson of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Irene was an active member in the CT Nurses Assoc., The National League for Nursing, The American Nurses Assoc. and American Assoc of University Professors.
In 1975 Irene accomplished her high school dream of completing her private pilot's license and owning her own Piper Cherokee airplane. Flying was a lifelong love for her. In 1978 she became Director of Nursing at New Mexico State University in Carlsbad, NM. After contemplating retirement she accepted a position at Las Vegas Medical Center in Las Vegas, NM as a Mental Clinical Specialist. She retired in 1989 filling her retirement with her favorite things: traveling, cross-stitching, painting and ceramics.
Irene is survived by her former husband, Dr. Charles Terzo; two children, Elissa Terzo Zerrenner of St. Pete Beach, FL and Guido C. Terzo of Henderson, NV; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Joyce Christensen of Coon Rapids, IA and Karen Yaden of Clackamas, OR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Thelma Brassfield; one brother, Elvis Brassfield; and a sister, Betty Benckendorf.
