Martha Adams
Jerseyville: Martha Ellen Adams, 71, died at 6:10 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 1996, at her residence.
She worked at Alton Mental Health and Developmental Center for 11 years, retiring in 1980. The 1943 graduate of Jersey Community High School was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge, Elks and 518 Clubs.
Born August 11, 1925, in Jerseyville, she was a daughter of the late William and Lillie (Richey) Schermerhorn.
She married Robert Adams on March 2, 1944, in Jerseyville. He survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Jeanne Kyle of Godfrey, Janet Adams of University City, Mo., Eleanor Harris of Leawood, Kan., Rosemary Peipert of Godfrey and Alice Boulds of Alton; five sons, Daniel Adams of Fairbanks, Alaska, George Adams of Seattle, Wash., Carl Adams of Pekin, Joseph Adams of Brighton, and Roger Adams of Alton; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Mary Alvarez of Junction City, Kansas; and a brother, William Schermerhorn of Island Grove, Florida.
Two half-sisters, Katherine Weller and Margie Summers, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford - Holden Funeral Home in Jerseyville with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Church in Jerseyville with the Rev. William Kekeisen as celebrant.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made St. Francis Holy Ghost School or masses.
