Robert Adams
Jerseyville: Robert Eugene Adams, 75, died at 6:10 a.m. Friday, January 3, 1996 [7], at his home.
The 1939 graduate of Jersey Township High School also attended St. Louis University for three years. He was very fraternal, belonging to the Elks Lodge 954, Moose Lodge 695, Jerseyville American Legion Post 452, Alton VFW Post 1308 and a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church Choir.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the 5th Marine Division as a paratrooper, stationed in the South Pacific, and was wounded at Iwo Jima.
He was born in Jerseyville, the son of the late George Clarence and Emma (Hund) Adams.
He married the former Martha Ellen Schermerhorn March 2, 1944, in Jerseyville. She passed away September 8, 1995[6].
Surviving are five sons, Daniel Adams of Fairbanks, Alaska, George Adams of Seattle, Carl Adams of North Pekin, Joseph Adams of Brighton, and Roger Adams of Alton; five daughters, Jeanne Kyle of Alton, Janet Adams of University City, Mo., Eleanor Harris of Leawood, Kan., Rosemary Peipert of Godfrey and Alice Boulds of Alton; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Rowden of Rosewood Heights.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Crawford-Holden Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with a rosary recitation at 4 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a fourth-degree chalice service at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Father William Kekeisen will serve as celebrant.
He will be laid to rest at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville with full military services by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to masses.
