From the Republican for July 26, 1928:
James Bryant, near Maplewood, died Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Porter Bryant. Complications and age were the cause of his death. He was 91 years of age. He was also a Union soldier. Funeral services were held at the home, Tuesday afternoon, and burial was at Lizton.
from page 211 of the 1976 Hendricks County history:
... James Bryant fought in the Civil War under the command of Col. Straight of Indianapolis. Their unit was captured during fighting in Georgia and imprisoned. Led by Col. Straight, James Bryant and other Union Army soldiers used spoons to tunnel their way out of the Confederate prison and escape.
