She grew up in West Union for nearly 10 years before her family moved to their new house at Keys Bend in February 1932. She had two brothers and two sisters. She completed 12 years of school and attended the old school (elementary) at Slaughter Run and then Doddridge County High School. She and her future husband, Oral Husk, were both in the same graduating class, however, they were not friends at the time.
They met again in Washington, DC in early 1944. Oral had recently been discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard and Edith was on a visit to Washington from her work at Westinghouse electric in Fairmont, WV. They were married April 14, 1944.
