Marinda Smith was the eighth child born to Andrew Jackson Smith and Julia Ann Forshey Smith. She married Joseph Clark King in Washington County, Ohio on March 18, 1877. To their marriage were born seven children. After the death of Mr. King in 1922, she eventually married again to the Reverand David Howell of the Dalzell Ridge Church on October 5, 1937.

At the time of her death, Marinda Smith Howell, widowed again in 1939, made her residence at Whipple, Washington County though died at the Burgy Rest Home in Marietta, Ohio having resided there only six months.
