A cowboy and rodeo performer, "Johnny Jack" passed away in a local hospital following a long illness.

Johnny Jack's father was George Henry Darrow, a white man who was born in Connecticut and came to California with his parents and siblings when he was very young. The Darrows were a mining family living near Tuttletown. Johnny Jack's mother was Chatter, a Native American of the MiWuk tribe who lived in Tuttletown.

Johnny Jack married Rosa Yellowjacket, a full blooded Indian maiden, in 1905, and on April 15, 1906, their son, George, was born. Their daughter, Grace, was born May 12, 1917.

Rosa Yellowjacket Darrow was a basket weaver for her tribal community. Her family lived at Jackson Butte in Amador County. Together at Jackson Butte, Johnny Jack and Rosa lived among their tribe.

Sometime after 1930, Rosa and Johnny Jack separated and then divorced. In the 1940 census, Rose is listed as married, but Johnny Jack isn't listed as living with them. He was married to Leoda at the time of his death.

Rose Darrow passed away October 3, 1967 at the age of 95 in Amador County.

Johnny Jack was also married to Annie Jack Munhi, as per family history, and Leoda Tennessee McNair during his lifetime. He was married to Leoda at the time of his death.

Johnny Jack's maternal grandparents were Alekai and Perserta. They lived on a small ranchera in the area across highway 49 from where Tuttletown School Road is now located. The group made acorn meal on the motar rocks at Mormon Gulch near where Wilcox Ranch Road and Marietta Road are now.

A story passed down the generations of the Azevedo family is that on summer evenings when the chores were done, the Azevedo family would sit on their porch and listen to the MiWuk Native Americans chant on the hill across the field from the Azevedo ranch.

Johnny Jack's mother passed away in 1888, and his father passed away in 1927. His son, George, passed away in 1968, leaving his wife, nee Clara Williams, and several children. His daughter married, thus changing her surname to Kilgore.
