Born April 2, 1922 in Jedburg, he was a son of the late Camilion Vincent Smith and Sallie Elizabeth Easterlin Smith.
Pete retired from the South Carolina Forestry Department and was a dairy farmer.
Mr. Smith served his country in the United States Coast Guard and was a member of Providence Methodist Church.
He will always be remembered for his love of farming, reading and fishing, but most especially for taking care of his chickens.
Surviving are: his sons, Johnnie Ray Smith and wife Gwen of Brooklet, Georgia and Arnold Kenneth Smith of Moncks Corner; daughters, Patricia Mae Smith of Round O, Betty Jean Moore of Walterboro, Delores Herndon and husband Buck of Round O and Sallie Jo Fowler of Round O; ten grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Milton Smith; two daughters, Judy Ann Smith and Ellen Dale Smith; and eleven brothers and sisters.
Interment was in Beech Hill Cemetery, Givhans.
