Son of Carl and Nellie (Nelson) High.

Was baptized into the Christian faith on Jan. 2, 1914, and confirmed in 1929 at Westlanda Lutheran Church in Bertrand.
Graduated from Bertrand High School, 1931, class valedictorian; participated in a variety of musical and sports activities.
Military: U.S. Army, 1941-1945; member of the 10th Mountain Division; served in Italy during the final year of World War II; honorably discharged as captain.
Returned to Nebraska, resumed farming with his father.
Married: March 19, 1950, to Lois "Jean" Pierce in Bertrand.
Settled on the family farm southwest of Bertrand; retired 1978.
Moved to Kearney in 1985.

Activities: sang solos, in church choir, and with Harmony Highs quartet, four male cousins from Bertrand; joined the 1733 Barbershop Chorus in Kearney; was selected as Barbershopper of the Year 1987 for the Kearney chapter; church member at Immanuel Lutheran, Bertrand, and then First Lutheran Church, Kearney.

Survivors include his wife; son, Robin of Eugene, Ore.; daughters, Mary Bergstrom of Johnson Lake, Kathy Holland of Lincoln and Marcia Graham of Marshall, Wash.; and sister, Lois Johnson of Silver Spring, Md.; also sons-in-law, Jerry Bergstrom of Johnson Lake, Rick Holland of Lincoln and Rich Graham of Marshall; grandchildren, Bjorn and Haley Bergstrom, Sara and Alissa Holland, and Allyson, Laura, Samuel and Keenan Dunning; brother-in-law, Ellery Johnson of Silver Spring; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou and husband Gayle Hewitt of Salem, Ore.

Was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allen; and sister, Alice.
