SEIBEL, WALTER L.
Walter L. Seibel, 61, of Lodi died Saturday morning in a local hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in North Dakota, where he was raised and attended school. He left at the age of 18 and moved to Lodi where he worked at various jobs until he entered the Army during World War II.
He was placed in the 795th Antiaircraft Artillery Weapons Battalion where he was a military truck operator. He participated in the European, African, and Middle East campaigns. During his tour of service he received several medals of commendation for his outstanding service.
After his release from the service he returned to Lodi where he worked for Newfield and Sons Furniture Store. It was about this time that he met Christina Quenzer, whom he married in February of 1947. They made their home in Lodi.
He was always involved in family oriented activities.
Mr. Seibel is survived by his wife, Christina Seibel of Lodi; one son, Bradley Seibel of Galt; one daughter, Cathleen Melhaff of Galt; four brothers, Herbert Seibel of Colorado, Alfred, Edwin an LeRoy Seibel, all of Lodi; four sisters, Helen Seibel, Edna Bonnet, and Violet Bauer, all of Lodi and Lorraine Cordell of Oceanside; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Lodi Funeral Home chapel on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Holm of Vinewood Community Church officiating.
Interment will follow in Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to call today after 8 a.m. Friends may make donations in his name to the Cancer Society.
