Mr. George W. Porter, one of Palatka's well known and highly esteemed citizens, died Monday evening at the family home on Olive street, following an extended illness. For some months he had been in declining health, and as his condition had been regarded serious for the past several; weeks, his health came as no great surprise to the community where he had resided for many years.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the family residence, being conducted by Rev. J. F. Savell, the Baptist pastor. The remains were sent to the old home of the Porters in Springfield, S.C., for interment.
The deceased was seventy-two years of age, and was a native of South Carolina. About thirteen years ago he came to Palatka, and here he had ever since resided. He was a faithful member of the Baptist Church, and was held in the love and esteem of many friends. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. L. E. Wood, of Palatka, and by five sons, G. C. and S. J. Porter, of Palatka, Dan E. Porter, of St. Augustine, George C. and Allen Porter of Springfield, S.C. (Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 25 Nov 1921.)
