Steve "Big Steve/Steverino" Bearden passed away May 14, 2010, after a heroic, 11-month battle with cancer.

Steve was born on November 5, 1957, in Artesia, California, to Wayman and Theresa (Teri) Bearden.

He grew up in Anaheim, attended Apollo Jr. High and graduated with the Western High School class of '75.

Always a car enthusiast, Steve's favorite courses were automotive mechanics. He enjoyed building model cars as a boy and drag races and rebuilding cars as an adult. For the past several years, the highlight of Steve's summer has been his yearly pilgrimage with his oldest friend Pat to Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Steve was a longtime resident of San Clemente, California. For more than 20 years, he was a regular at his favorite hangouts like Sonny's Pizza, Tina and Vince's and La Siesta and you could always catch him at Monday Night Football at The Fisherman's. Steve enjoyed his many friends and family, attending rock concerts, loved watching movies, and he always looked forward to family traditions and get-togethers. You could count on Steve for some great story-telling and laughter during tamale making, backyard BBQs and holiday dinners. His Super Bowl parties were legendary - grilled tri-tip, homemade Medina tamales, Glenn's no-wimps chili, and Steverino margaritas. Steve never met a stranger - he adopted new friends everywhere he went. His brilliant smile, joy of life, infectious laugh and open heart drew people close to him.

Not two years ago at the age of 50, Steve married the love of his life, Joan O'Donnell.

Steve and Joan would have celebrated their anniversary on June 7th.

Steve is survived by his adoring wife Joan O'Donnell Bearden, and stepson Nate O'Donnell; his parents Wayman and Teri Bearden of Reno, NV; sister Cindy Bearden Healy, brother-in-law Paul Healy and their son Jack Healy of Reno, NV; aunts and uncles, Elsie Guerrero and Rosa Medina of Lakewood, CA, Celia Medina of San Jose, CA, George and Corrie Medina of Bellflower, CA, and Nancy and Fred Norton of Lake Isabella, CA; first cousins Yolanda, Amanda, Michael and Laura; Todd, Jason and Lucy; Bobby, Jimmy, Gary and Ronnie; and an army of second cousins, great-aunts and uncles, and countless dear friends.

Steve joins many beloved family members and friends in God's Kingdom including his grandparents Jessie and Blaine Bearden, grandparents Teresa and Melecio Medina, aunts Hortense and Mary Lou Medina, and uncle Joe Medina, cousin and matchmaker Lydia Medina Ruiz and dear friends Terry, Rob and Andy.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Sunday, June 6th, at the San Clemente Community Center at 2:00 p.m. Per his wishes,

Steve's ashes will be launched from the parachute of a race car this summer at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
