Dr. Alvis Bennett Shelton was born in Graves county, Ky., about three-fourths of a century ago. He experienced all the hardships and had all joys of the average country boy. His aspiration was to be a doctor, and for this he prepared himself well, " and for nearly half a century he was one of the leading physicians of both Weakley county, Tenn., and Graves county, Ky. Living near Boydsville, Ky., just on the Tennessee side, and not far from the corner of Henry county, Tenn., and Calloway county, Ky., he enjoyed a large practice in four
counties.

He was the fond and loving, as well as the exceedingly indulgent, father of ten children who all survive him. He was an attentive and affectionate husband. The splendid home he built for his own is a standing manifestation of his love for those of his household.

Among his contemporaries in his profession, he was admired for
his ability and progressiveness; among his friends, for all that it takes to make a moral man of the highest type, and among those of his family, for his almost unparalleled devotion.

He died March ,20, 1915, and on the following day the funeral was conducted in, his home by the writer. He was buried just across the state line in front of the house, in the family graveyard. - W. E. Morgan.
