Major General Russell Peter Hartle, Deputy Commander of American troops in the European Theater of Operations (ETOUSA), under Lt. General Dwight David Eisenhower, November 2, 1942. When Eisenhower went to North Africa from October 1942 to February 1943, Hartle moved his office to London. He continued commanding the V Corps until his reassignment to Camp Fannin, Texas, in July 1943 to train replacement troops. He was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal for actions during the World War II, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in duty of great responsibility during the period from April 1942 to March 1943. He was presented with Coveted Legion Of Merit by General Eisenhower. On December 14 1945 at the Scottish Rite Temple, in Wichita, Kansas. He was awarded his 33rd Degree Rank of Freemasonry.
