Cecil E. Knight, 94, of Hamburg died Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, LA. A native of the Milo community in Ashley County and a former resident of Pine Bluff, Memphis, Dallas, Texas and Culver City, California, he moved back to Hamburg in 1976 and has been a resident of The Pillars in Crossett for the past two years. He was a retired plumbing contractor and taught plumbing at the University of Arkansas at Monticello for several years. He was a member of the Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church and loved to sing bass in gospel quartets and singing with the Melody Boys of Memphis, Tennessee.



He is survived by his wife, Virginia Woods Ware Knight of Bastrop; two sons, Duane Knight and wife Jeanne of Crossett and Chuck Knight and wife Sheryl of Big Bear Lake, California; two daughters, Cecile Thomas and husband Richard of Crossett and Nancy Brown and husband Kenneth of Garfield; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rubin and Maggie Matlock Knight; two brothers, Dewey and Henry Knight; and five sisters, Maude Bryant, Beulah Craig, Anna Stanley, Betty Willis and Alvie Allen.

Funeral services are 2 p.m., Saturday, May 22, in the chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home with Rev. Farrell Breshears officiating. Burial will be in the Egypt Cemetery. Pallbearers are Stephen Knight, Duane Knight, Jr., Rickey Knight, Jimmy Knight, Tommy Knight and Bill Webb. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
