Composer. Born in Fornia, Italy, he immigrated with his family to the United States in 1891. At the age of 17, he began his music career as a pianist in cabaret clubs and eventually was hired under contract with Paramount studios as a score composer. In Hollywood, he collaborated with several lyricists, including Johnny Burke, Joe McCarthy, Mack Gordon, Edgar Leslie, Grant Clarke and Sidney Clare. Among his many hit songs are "Row, Row, Row", "You Made Me Love You", "I Miss You Most of All", "I'm Crying Just For You" and "You've Got Me in the Palm of Your Hand". He died in Beverly Hills, California, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
