Family Tribute

Tess Inman Beach

Calling Tess "determination personified" is a good attempt at capturing this young woman's spunky soul. However, she possessed an indefinable quality that many express simply and beautifully as "sparkle".

Since the day she was born on Sept. 10, 1994 in Little Rock, Ark., Tess had the ability to draw a very special stream of very special adults into her life. They became absolutely and eternally a part of her personal network.

She was adopted at birth by Mom Jennifer Inman (from whom she learned how to work a room) and Dad Daniel Beach (who instilled in her a love of the Ducks!) From the age of three on, she absorbed from Step-dad Frans de Nes a very clever, if not down-right wicked sense of humor.

Her life here in the Willamette Valley was rich with family including Grandparents Helen and Byron Inman and Linda and Larry Beach; Uncle Todd Inman; first cousins Devon and Darian; Goddess Mother Lisa Barrager and family; and cat family Karel, Teddy, and "Mama" Lily (whose vigilant post beside Tess was a great comfort and joy).

These are just some of her peeps.

As an adopted person, it makes sense that she would adopt other loved ones into the orbit of her life - defining her family on her own terms as she went along.

For Tess, her core group of friends meant the world. However, in her life, everyone fit. She had many groups of friends and while she couldn't always be part of their lives, she always wished for their happiness and was grateful for the time spent as a "normal teen" without cancer. As a Cal Young Middle School alum (Go Cougars!) and a Sophomore at Sheldon High School (Go Fighting Irish!) Tess loved sports, anime, and made time to wail on the sax in two bands (special shout out to Sheldon Jazz, Marching and Pep Bands!) She was also a pretty hard core drummer on Rock Band.

This "app-happy" teen was a tech fan, graciously teaching her parents about the latest technology trends. She also kept them current on the latest lingo, helping expand their vocabulary in amusing ways. Fo Shizzle!

She recently earned her driver's permit. Defying all notions about teen drivers, Tess was conscientious behind the wheel - as she was in life.

Tess dreamed of becoming a Chef, wanting to create and combine dishes with the assistance of a cadre of sous-chefs. Knowing Tess's willfulness, this dream would have been reality.

On May 17, 2010, a thunderous night, Tess died. It is clear that the Heavens had to work hard to bring home this determined spirit.

Tess knew that life is about the relationships you create as you make your way. Many have been personally blessed to know Tess. Many, many more have been blessed to know of her spunky spirit that refused to stop living. She lived life "Horns To the Box".

In honor of Tess, we will CELEBRATE her life at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 5 at Cal Young Middle School in Eugene.

Friends and family may also remember Tess by contributing to Greenhill Humane Society, the Cal Young Bands, or Sheldon High Bands.
