Pneumonia Takes Aged Resident of Berwick Township
George W. Allewelt died at his home in Berwick township, Adams county, Sunday, after a week's illness from pneumonia. He was aged 80 years, seven months and 14 days. He was a son of the late Solomon and Barbara (Hoffman) Allewelt and was the last member of his family. He was born and always lived in the house in which he died.
When a young man he with his brother, John I. Allewelt, learned the carpenter trade with the late Washington Bair. Later he discontinued this trade and engaged in farming until advanced age caused him to retire.
He was twice married. His first wife was Anna M. Slagle, daughter of the late Jacob Slagle and wife. His second wife was Mary C. Kindig, daughter of the late John Kindig and wife, near Littlestown. Both wives have preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles Shafer, who resided with her father on the home farm, and Miss Anna M. Allewelt, a teacher in the Hanover public schools.
Funeral services at his late residence, Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock. The Rev. Ralph H. Bergstresser, pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran church of Hanover, will officiate.
